directs the work of the department;

ensures the implementation of the educational development program;

provides the provision of preschool, primary, basic secondary and general secondary education, including the evening (shift) form of education, and general secondary education provided through residential care;

conducts general management of all activities of the Education Department in accordance with the Law of the RK "On Education" and other normative documents;

supports and assists in providing material and technical support to state educational organizations that implement general educational curricula for primary, secondary and general secondary education (with the exception of educational institutions in penitentiaries of the penal system);

in the established manner, provides state support for orphans, children left without parents’ care, their compulsory employment and provision of housing;

represents the department of education in the apparatus of akim of the city and akim of the region, maslikhat of the city and maslikhat of the region;

appoints and dismisses employees of the department, heads of educational institutions.
